Canton Man Charged with Bank Robbery

U.S. Attorney’s Office February 16, 2012
  • Northern District of Ohio (216) 622-3600

Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, today announced that an indictment was filed against Gillett L. Jones, age 46, of Canton, Ohio. Jones was charged with bank robbery of the Key Bank, 3001 Cleveland Avenue SW, Canton, Ohio.

The indictment charges that the defendant robbed the Cleveland Avenue SW Key Bank office on January 25, 2012. It further alleges he took approximately $3,220.26 from the bank. He was apprehended a short time later by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.

The indictment resulted from an investigation conducted by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was presented for indictment by Assistant United States Attorney Linda H. Barr.

If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
