Richmond Heights Man Charged with Bank Robbery

U.S. Attorney’s Office July 27, 2011
  • Northern District of Ohio (216) 622-3600

Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, today announced that a federal grand jury returned a one-count indictment charging the crime of bank robbery against Alex D. Harper, age 27, of Richmond Heights, Ohio.

The indictment alleges that on June 11, 2011, Alex D. Harper robbed the First National Bank located at 7323 Center Street, Mentor, Ohio, of $4,673 in U.S. currency.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

If convicted, Harper’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

The indictment was presented to the grand jury by Assistant United States Attorney Blas E. Serrano.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
