Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, announced today that George D. Delong, Jr., a 40-year-old from Mars, Pennsylvania, was charged with exploitation of children, attempted exploitation of children, receipt of a visual depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, enticement, and traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

The indictment charges that from on or about June 1, 2011, through on or about August 5, 2011, Delong knowingly used a computer and a telephone, to attempt to persuade, induce, entice, and coerce a 15-year-old girl to engage in illegal sexual activity with him. In addition, on or about June 28, 2011, Delong knowingly received, by computer, a digital image file, which file contained a visual depiction of a real minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. In addition, on or about July 17, 2011, Delong attempted to persuade, induce, entice and coerce a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct. Also, on or about August 6, 2011, Delong knowingly traveled from Pennsylvania to Ohio for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl. Lastly, on or about August 10, 2011, Delong knowingly traveled from Pennsylvania to Ohio for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl.

If convicted, the defendant’s sentence in this case will be determined by the court after consideration of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines which depend upon a number of factors unique to each case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the unique characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

This case is being prosecuted by Northern District of Ohio Assistant United States Attorney Michael A. Sullivan. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Beaver Police Department

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
