Ohio Woman Charged with Identity Theft

U.S. Attorney’s Office November 04, 2011
  • Northern District of Ohio (216) 622-3600

Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, announced the unsealing of an indictment charging Laura Warner (aka Laura Korber), age 48, formerly of Elyria, Ohio, with one count of aggravated identity theft and one count of falsely using the Social Security number of another.

The indictment charges that Laura Warner, in approximately December 2008, used the Social Security number of another person in order to apply for employment at Kraftmaid Cabinetry, doing business as Masco Retail Cabinet Group.

If convicted, each defendant’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and factors unique to each case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offenses and the characteristics of the violations.

The indictment is the result of an investigation by the Cleveland Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael L. Collyer.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
