Cleveland Bank Robber Arrested

C. Frank Figliuzzi, Special Agent in Charge of the Cleveland Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), for the Northern District of Ohio, announces the arrest of Cecil J. Kirkland, age 49, of Cleveland, Ohio on October 20, 2009. Kirkland is charged with one count of Federal Bank Robbery for his involvement in the robbery of the Key Bank, 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio on October 19, 2009.

Kirkland was arrested shortly after the Key Bank robbery by responding Cleveland Police Officers. Kirkland has pending charges in the following bank robberies: Fifth Third Bank, 600 Superior Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio on October 13, 2009; Charter One Bank, 1215 Superior Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio on October 14, 2009; and the Chase Bank, 1300 E. 9th Street, Cleveland, Ohio on October 16, 2009. These bank robberies were investigated by the Cleveland Division of Police, Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department, and the Cleveland Office of the FBI.

Kirkland will appear today in United States District Court, Cleveland, Ohio for his initial appearance on the charge of bank robbery. Federal Bank Robbery carries a penalty of up to 20 years' imprisonment.
