Our victim specialists work to ensure that victims of crimes investigated by the FBI are afforded the opportunity to receive the services and notifications required by federal law and by the Attorney General Guidelines on Victim and Witness Assistance (2005).
The victim specialists are responsible for providing effective and timely assistance to victims of crime. They assist FBI case agents in identifying victims of a crime and help victims by mitigating the negative impact of victimization and the stress associated with participating in the criminal justice process.
The victim specialists are also proactive in identifying victim assistance resources in the communities and developing good working relationships with the providers. They make referrals for victim services, such as counseling and support groups. In addition, they have regular contact with the U.S. Attorney's Office Victim-Witness Coordinators and are participants in local, regional, and statewide victim assistance networks. The victim specialists initiate the contact to access victims' needs, inform victims of their rights, and assist with Crime Victim Compensation application.
For more information on FBI services for victims, see the Office for Victim Assistance webpage.
