Suspect Arrested in Connection with TCF Bank Robbery

A criminal complaint was filed late yesterday charging a 39-year-old Chicago man in connection with a bank robbery that occurred Sunday morning at a TCF Bank branch located at 4250 North Lincoln Avenue in Chicago.

Erwin Acox, of 5110 N. Kimball, was charged in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of bank robbery, a felony offense. According to the complaint, Acox entered the TCF Bank branch located inside the Jewel grocery store at 4250 North Lincoln Avenue in Chicago just after 10:00 a.m. on Sunday and approached a teller. The complaint alleges that the teller was holding $2,000 in cash, and as Acox reached the counter, he grabbed the money from the teller’s hand. The complaint further alleges that Acox demanded that the teller give him additional money from the teller’s drawer and after receiving more money, put the cash into his pocket and walked away.

The complaint states that FBI investigators provided a physical description of the robber to Chicago Police Department officers, who saw a man matching the description and took him into custody without incident. Acox was turned over to the FBI and appeared late yesterday before United States Magistrate Judge Jeffrey T. Gilbert, at which time he was formally charged and ordered held until his next court date, scheduled for April 11, 2013.

If convicted of the charge filed against him, Acox faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years’ incarceration.
