BERWYN, IL—The City of Berwyn, Berwyn Police Department and Berwyn Fire Department are pleased to announce federal law enforcement agency participation in the 26th Annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. National Night Out is Berwyn’s marquee event in its effort to enhance awareness around public safety issues and to strengthen partnerships between law enforcement and the community. To reinforce these goals, Berwyn will bridge the gap at the federal level by featuring demonstrations and representatives from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), U.S. Marshals Service, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and veterans groups representing the US Army, US Air Force, and US Marine Corps. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will bring out key personnel to speak with the community and will exhibit their Mobile Command Center, a 53-foot, 53,000-pound vehicle designed to respond at a moment’s notice to complex national security and criminal investigations. Additionally, the FBI will enact demonstrations with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) agents, who engage in the most serious, high-risk encounters. Lastly, the FBI will be handing out National Child Identification Program kits, which assist parents in gathering information that could help identify their child in the event that the child is reported missing.

Now in its 26th year, National Night Out is shared by over thirty five million people in over ten thousand different communities across North America. A huge success locally, Berwyn produced the top ranking National Night Out event in the State of Illinois and the 21st in the nation last year. With an attendance reaching over 6,000 participants, the event benefits not only Berwyn residents but also the expected visitors from the greater Cook County area, bringing neighbors and communities together to reduce crime, drugs and violence.

National Night Out will take place at Morton West High School at 2400 Home Avenue in Berwyn, IL. The 2009 event will have a showing of full force from Berwyn’s Police and Fire departments as well as local law enforcement from Bolingbrook, Bridgeview, Broadview, Brookfield, Chicago, Cook County, Countryside, Downers Grove, Forest Park, Hillside, Hodgkins, Lemont, Lyons, McCook, North Riverside, Oak Park, Riverside, Romeoville, Stickney, Westchester, and Westmont. Additionally, the event will include representation from Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Brookfield Zoo, Fire Marshalls, Illinois Crime Scene Investigation, Lifesource, Metra, TRT and Hazmat. Participants can also enjoy live music, fireworks, food, games, and the movie Grease being shown on the football field after dark.
