Public’s Help Sought in Search for Libertyville Credit Union Robbers

FBI Chicago September 24, 2009
  • Special Agent Garrett Croon (312) 829-1199

Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public’s help in identifying the individuals who are believed responsible for the armed robbery earlier this year of the Great Lakes Credit Union, located at 1509 North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, Illinois.

The take-over style robbery occurred on April 13th just before 10:00 a.m., when two masked robbers, armed with handguns, entered the credit union and threatened several bank employees with harm if their demands for cash were not met. One of the bank robbers entered the bank on crutches, but dropped them in the lobby and displayed a weapon. He held a bank employee and two bank customers at bay while his partner forced another bank teller to empty her drawer into a backpack that he brought with him. He then forced two bank employees into the vault area, where an additional sum of money was obtained.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the robbers exited the bank and were last seen leaving the area in a beige colored automobile. The vehicle had neither a rear license plate nor hubcaps on its left side.

The robbers were described by witnesses as black/males, 20-25 years of age, both approximately 6 feet tall with slim builds. They were wearing similar dark colored jackets with hoods and ski masks covering their faces.

This robbery is being investigated jointly by the FBI and the Libertyville Police Department.

Anyone recognizing these individuals or having any information about this robbery is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.

Additional information about this and other unsolved Chicago area bank robbery cases, including downloadable photos, are available at the Chicago Bandit Tracker website at www.bandittrackerchicago.com.
