FBI Offers $5,000 Reward to Recover Stolen Weapons

The Charlotte Division of the FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the recovery of two weapons stolen from a government vehicle. The weapons and other equipment were taken from an FBI agent’s vehicle parked in the Hunter Oaks neighborhood off Rea Road in Union County on September 29, 2014, between approximately 12:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. The agent is part of a special response team and must be ready to respond 24/7 and therefore is authorized to store weapons in his vehicle.

The items stolen include:

  • 1 Remington 870 shotgun
  • 1 Colt M-4LE rifle
  • Body armor: olive drab in color with FBI patches

The FBI, in partnership with the Union County Sheriff’s Office, is devoting significant resources to locate these weapons and remove them from the possession of the untrained individual(s) who may have them. All area law enforcement agencies were quickly notified of the theft and are assisting the FBI as warranted. Anyone with information should call FBI Charlotte immediately at 704-672-6100 or Union County Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600. The public should be aware whoever stole the weapons may not be storing them in plain sight; the weapons and vest were additionally stored inside three separate black canvas bags. In addition to the FBI’s reward of up to $5,000, the person who provides information leading to the recovery of the weapons may also be eligible for a Union County Crime Stoppers reward of up to $1,000.
