Sanford Man Sentenced for Fayetteville Bank Robbery

GREENVILLE—United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court yesterday Randy Dale Carter, 26, was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge Malcolm J. Howard to 60 months’ imprisonment, to be served after his current state sentence, followed by three years’ supervised release and restitution in the amount of $6,643.80.
On June 7, 2012, Carter pled guilty to bank robbery, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a). On August 24, 2011, Carter stole approximately $9,000 from the RBC Bank on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The investigation revealed that upon entering the bank, Carter presented a demand note to a teller. While gathering the money, the teller slipped a dye pack into the bag with the money. As Carter was entering a taxi cab, which he had summoned earlier for his escape, the dye pack exploded, and the cab driver refused to give him a ride. Carter then escaped through a wooded area. Carter was identified through his fingerprints left in the cab. Carter was later found and arrested.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fayetteville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette is serving as prosecutor for the government.
