Goldsboro Man Sentenced for Manufacturing Child Pornography

U.S. Attorney’s Office March 24, 2010
  • Eastern District of North Carolina (919) 856-4530

RALEIGH, NC—United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today United States District Judge James C. Dever, III, sentenced LARRY DONNELL PARKS, JR., 33, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, to 292 months’ imprisonment followed by a lifetime term of supervised release.

A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on May 7, 2009. On September 8, 2009, PARKS pled guilty to manufacturing child pornography, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 2251(a) and (d).

On November 16, 2007, a family member discovered a homemade videotape of a child performing various sexual activities. The family member then notified law enforcement and turned over the videotape and gave consent to law enforcement to search the defendant’s residence for additional tapes. During their search, officers found video cameras set up in two rooms of the house. Other videos were found in the house containing footage of the child performing sexual activities at the direction of PARKS.

"The sentence imposed reflects the paramount efforts that are being undertaken to protect our children. With sentences such as this, it is hoped that future conduct like this will be detered. I would also like to add that the strength and bravery of the family member in immediately coming forward to alert law enforcement is commendable,” commented Mr. Holding.

This case is part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a national program aimed at ensuring that criminals exploiting children are effectively prosecuted by making full use of all available law enforcement resources at every level. Investigation of this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Selma Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Ethan Ontjes represented the government.
