Nash County Man Sentenced to 180 Months for Participation in Trafficking Crack Cocaine

NEW BERN—United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on November 12, 2009, Chief United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan sentenced

WILLIAM CLINTON HARDY, 70, of Whitaker, North Carolina, to 180 months' imprisonment for his participation in a drug conspiracy operating in and around Nash County, and for possessing of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

In February 2009, law enforcement executed a search warrant at HARDY’s home where they found multiple firearms, 46.9 grams of crack cocaine, digital scales, ammunition, and approximately $4,000.00 in U.S. Currency. The investigation revealed that HARDY was responsible for obtaining and/or distributing 822.15 grams of crack cocaine since February 2008.

This case is part of Operation Burnout, an Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Operation being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, and Nash County Sheriff’s Office, targeting multi-level distributors of cocaine,“crack”cocaine,” and marijuana in and around Halifax County and Nash County. To date, 23 drug traffickers have been arrested on federal drug charges as part of this investigation.
Assistant United States Attorney Josh Royster served as the prosecutor for the government.
