Wilmington Man Sentenced for Bank Robbery Charge

RALEIGH, NC—United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court here yesterday Senior United States District Judge W. Earl Britt sentenced NATHANIEL FRANK DAVIS, 45, of Wilmington, North Carolina, to 188 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release for bank robbery.

A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on August 13, 2008. On June 10, 2008, DAVIS entered a Bank of America in Wilmington. Walking to a teller while covering his face with a towel, DAVIS handed the teller a note demanding all $100s, $50s, and $20s. The teller collected the money and gave it to DAVIS. DAVIS left the bank. Wilmington Police officers responded to the call and with the aid of a K—9, tracked him to a nearby residence where he was captured.

DAVIS’ criminal history that includes breaking and entering, several larceny and shoplifting charges, possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin, several resisting or obstructing a public officer charges, injury to personal property, assault on a female, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of stolen goods or property, simple assault, and hit and run failure to stop for property damage.

Mr. Holding commented on this case: “Maintaining the safety and security of our local banks is a priority matter. This office will continue to work with all law enforcement agencies to bring bank robbers to justice. ”

Investigation of the case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Wilmington Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Ethan Ontjes served as prosecutor for the government.
