BUFFALO, N.Y.-U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. announced today that Mark Newman, 56, of Depew, NY, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango, who is handling the case, stated that on September 26, 2012, a search warrant was executed at the defendant's residence. Items seized from Newman’s residence that contained child pornography included a Toshiba laptop computer. A forensic analysis uncovered approximately 300 videos of child pornography stored on the computer. Some of the images depicted prepubescent minors or minors less than 12 years of age, as well as images of violence. In addition, as part of the plea agreement, Newman admitted that he has engaged in a pattern of sexual abuse of a minor.

The plea is the result of an investigation on the part of Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 13, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. before Judge Wolford.
