10th Street Gang Member Sentenced On Racketeering Charges

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Jairo Hernandez, 26, of Buffalo, NY, who was convicted of Racketeering Influenced Corrupt Organizations Conspiracy (RICO Conspiracy) and to possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, was sentenced to 71 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph M. Tripi and John M. Alsup, who handled the case, stated that between 2000 and 2010, the defendant was a member of the 10th Street Gang. As part of his involvement in the gang, Hernandez possessed firearms, sold marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, and other controlled substances on the West Side of Buffalo.

Hernandez is one of 44 defendants convicted on this case.
 
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of Investigators of the New York State Police under the direction of Major Michael Cerretto, the Buffalo Police Department under the direction of Commission Daniel Derenda, and Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
