BUFFALO, NY—U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Ricardo Waldrop, 35, of Buffalo, NY, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a gun before U.S. District Court Judge Richard J. Arcara. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Maigret, who is handling the case, stated that on December 17, 2010, the defendant sold a loaded .40 caliber semiautomatic pistol to another individual. Special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation subsequently stopped the vehicle of the individual who had purchased the firearm and recovered the weapon. Further investigation revealed that Waldrop had sold the pistol to that person.
The plea is the culmination of an investigation on the part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Richard W. Kollmar; task force officers from the New York State Division of Parole; and special agents of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Resident Agent in Charge Frank J. Christiano.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 6, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. before Judge Arcara.
