BUFFALO, NY—U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Beverly Baer, 51, of Depew, New York, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with cocaine distribution and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The charges carry a minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony M. Bruce, who is handling the case, stated that during a search of the defendant's residence on Broadway St., Depew, New York by federal and local law enforcement officials, they discovered 44 grams of suspected cocaine, 13 firearms, and dozens of rounds of ammunition.
Baer is remanded pending a detention hearing, which is scheduled for Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 11:30 a.m.
The arrest is the culmination of an investigation on the part of special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James H. Robertson, and officers of the Depew Police Department.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
