ROCHESTER, NY—U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Kevin D. Galleto, 24, of Greece, NY, who was convicted of mail fraud on March 3, 2010, was sentenced to five years’ probation and ordered to pay $15,900.69 restitution by U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa J. Miller, who handled the case, stated that Galleto devised a scheme to defraud buyers on Internet websites such as eBay and Craigslist. He posted advertisements for certain items, such as car parts, that he did not own or possess. Those interested in buying the items sent Galleto money, via the United States Postal Service, and he kept it without ever sending the promised items in return.
The conviction was the culmination of an investigation on the part of special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of James H. Robertson, and the United States Postal Inspection Service, Boston Division, under the direction of Inspector In Charge Robert Bethel.
