Man Sentenced for Two Bank Robberies

ROCHESTER, NY—U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that David Harrington, 41 of Rochester, NY, was sentenced to 130 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $20,384 by U.S. District Court Charles J. Siragusa for his July 27, 2009, conviction for two bank robberies.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Marangola, who handled the case, stated that Harrington was responsible for two bank robberies within a five-month period. He robbed the Community Bank located at 150 West Mark Street in Corning on August 28, 2007. Harrington then robbed the Community Bank at 401 North Franklin Street in Watkins Glen, New York on January 17, 2008.

During the first bank robbery in Corning, Harrington walked up to a female teller and passed her a note demanding money from the top and bottom drawers. The teller turned over $7,884. In Watkins Glen, Harrington walked up to a female teller and passed a note demanding "100s, 50s, 20s and 10s" from "the bottom drawer" and ordering "No die packs, no bait money , and no stalling." Harrington was given $12,500 during that robbery.

Harrington has a history of convictions for robberies in Steuben, Onondaga, and Oswego counties.

The sentencing was the culmination of an investigation on the part of special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of James H. Robertson, Special Agent in Charge; the New York State Police; the Corning Police Department; the Watkins Glen Police Department; the Ithaca Police Department; the Steuben County District Attorney's Office, under the direction of District Attorney John C. Tunney; and the Schuyler County District Attorney's Office, under the direction of District Attorney Joseph G. Fazzary.
