Man Sentenced in Marijuana Trafficking Case

ROCHESTER, NY—U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that JOHN M. DESTOUT, JR., 23 years old, of Long Beach, California, who was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute 100 kilograms or more of marijuana, on Jan. 20, 2010, was sentenced to 37 months in prison, fined $500, and ordered to forfeit $4,000, by U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett A. Harvey, who handled the case, stated that the defendant had been involved in a conspiracy to obtain large quantities of marijuana from individuals in Mexico, and then send those quantities of marijuana from the Long Beach, California area to the Western District of New York, where the marijuana was then distributed to others. The defendant was specifically involved in trafficking between 100 and 400 kilograms of marijuana during the conspiracy.

The conviction was the culmination of an investigation on the part of special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James H. Robertson.
