Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Child Pornography Case

ROCHESTER, NY—Vang Khammanivong, 62, of Rochester, NY, who had pled guilty to the knowing possession of child pornography on August 1, 2007, was sentenced to 120 months in prison, and 15 years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa, U.S. Attorney Terrance P. Flynn of the Western District of New York announced today.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, who handled the case, stated that in August 2005, the defendant knowingly possessed a cell phone with two close-up pictures he had taken of the genital area of a six year old girl.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In February 2006, Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys' Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims. The conviction was the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Laurie J. Bennett and the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office under the direction of Mike Green.
