Buffalo Community Outreach

Buffalo, like each of the FBI’s local field offices, has a community outreach program that complements and strengthens our many efforts to protect you, your business, and your families in concrete ways through a range of activities and initiatives.

Our recent activities include:

FBI Citizens’ Academy

  • In March 2010, we continued our partnership with the American Association of University Women (Buffalo Branch) by providing presentations at the annual Tech Savvy Conference for sixth through ninth grade girls and at the Sister to Sister Summit for girls aged 11 to 17.
  • In December 2011, we presented the 2011 Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA) to Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) Joseph M. Tripi. AUSA Tripi works in the United States Attorney’s Office’s National Security Division, which oversees all federal gang prosecutions, and was recognized for his prosecutive work on investigations of the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force.
  • In November 2009, we completed our 19th session of the FBI Citizens’ Academy with 26 graduates representing a cross section of western New York community leaders from business, media, minority communities, and government. Since September 1998, we have graduated more than 425 participants of the Citizens’ Academy.

Among our other ongoing efforts:

  • Meeting with minority groups and civic organizations to discuss partnerships and FBI community events;
  • Partnering with local organizations to host town hall meetings to dialogue on key issues;
  • Sending our FBI special agents and professional support staff into schools, businesses, faith-based organizations, and civic events to discuss emerging crime threats and to provide specific advice on how to prevent being victimized;
  • Supporting the Buffalo Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association, which assists the Bureau and promotes a safe community by educating business, media, minority, religious, government, and other community leaders;
  • Partnering with the American Football Coaches Association and its National Child Identification Program to distribute Child ID kits at various venues and events;
  • Serving on committees and boards for businesses, schools, community groups, faith-based organizations, and health services to launch drives to bring clothing, food, and gifts to the less fortunate year round; and
  • Collaborating on various youth-based programming initiatives.
