Ex-Revere Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Making False Statements to FBI

U.S. Attorney’s Office September 07, 2011
  • District of Massachusetts (617) 748-3100

BOSTON—A Revere police officer, who recently resigned from the Revere Police Department, pleaded guilty today in federal court with making false statements to the FBI when questioned about a public corruption investigation.

TODD RANDALL, 40, was charged in an information related to statements made to federal agents in March. Had the case proceeded to trial, the government’s evidence would have proved that RANDALL lied to investigators when questioned during the course of an FBI public corruption investigation.

In January 2010, RANDALL, then a Revere police officer, met with an FBI cooperating witness (CW) and accepted $200 in exchange for RANDALL’s assistance with a criminal case pending in Chelsea District Court. FBI agents observed and photographed RANDALL, who was on duty and in a police uniform, exit the police cruiser and enter the home of the CW. While inside the home of the CW, RANDALL accepted $200 in FBI funds from the CW and then explained the efforts he would make to compromise a pending criminal case in Chelsea District Court for a friend of the CW. The interaction between the CW and RANDALL was audio and video recorded.

In March, FBI interviewed RANDALL and disclosed that they were investigating information that RANDALL had assisted the CW’s friend with a court case. RANDALL denied this, and also denied that he had accepted money from the CW. He further denied that he had been to the CW’s home.

RANDALL is scheduled for sentencing on December 13 at 3:00 p.m. He faces up to five years in federal prison to be followed by three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, made the announcement today. The case was investigated by the FBI with the assistance and cooperation of the Revere Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian T. Kelly of Ortiz’s Public Corruption and Special Prosecutions Unit.
