Violent Crimes Task Force Seeks “Copy Cat Bandit”

FBI Boston March 04, 2011

The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, Everett Police Department, and Winthrop Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a bank robber who is alleged to have robbed an Everett, Massachusetts branch of East Boston Savings Bank and a Winthrop, Massachusetts branch of Bank of America. During each of the robberies, he told tellers that he had a bomb.

On March 3, 2011, a branch of East Boston Savings Bank, located at 1755 Revere Beach Parkway was robbed. At approximately 9:36 a.m., a white male, approximately 30 to 40 years old and 5’9” to 5’11” tall, wearing a brown leather jacket, white scarf, dark baseball hat, and black gloves entered the bank. He demanded money from the teller and placed a package on the counter, claiming it was a bomb, which was later determined by the FBI and Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squads to be a hoax device. After the teller gave him money, he fled on foot in an unknown direction.

On March 4, 2011, an individual fitting the same physical description, wearing a brown leather coat, white baseball hat, and black scarf robbed a branch of Bank of America located at 25 Bartlett Road, Winthrop, Massachusetts at approximately 9:22 a.m. He showed the teller a cylindrical object and told her it was a bomb. After the teller gave him money, he fled on foot in an unknown direction taking the cylindrical object with him.

Bank surveillance cameras captured the below images of the robber.

The Massachusetts Bankers Association Tip Program is offering a reward for information leading to the charging and arrest of this robber. Anyone with information regarding these robberies is asked to call the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force at (617) 742-5533.
