Somerville Man Convicted of Possession of Child Pornography

U.S. Attorney’s Office January 27, 2011
  • District of Maine (207) 780-3257

PORTLAND, ME—United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced that on January 27, 2011, Matthew Clark, 59, of Somerville, Maine was convicted of two counts of possession of child pornography. The verdict was rendered by U.S. District Judge George Singal following a three-day jury-waived trial in federal district court in Portland. Clark faces a sentence, on each count, of up to 20 years’ imprisonment, a lifetime of supervised release, and up to a $250,000 fine. He was detained pending imposition of sentence.

Testimony and evidence admitted at trial revealed that detectives from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department seized computers and videotapes from Clark's residence during the execution of a search warrant in January of 2008. Subsequent review of the tapes and computer revealed the presence of child pornography images and videos.

United States Attorney Delahanty recognized the substantial investigation conducted by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Craig Wolff and Richard Murphy.
