Fitchburg Man Jailed for Selling Crack Cocaine

U.S. Attorney’s Office October 06, 2010
  • District of Massachusetts (617) 748-3100

BOSTON, MA—A Fitchburg man was sentenced today in federal court for selling crack cocaine to an informant working with federal agents.

ANGEL MOLINA, 26, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor, IV to two years’ imprisonment to be followed by three years of supervised release. MOLINA pled guilty to two counts of possession of cocaine base with intent to distribute on June 9, 2010.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the court that had the case proceeded to trial, the government’s evidence would have proven that on July 16, 2009, MOLINA sold 27.9 grams of crack cocaine to an informant working with FBI and DEA agents in exchange for $1,100. On August 31, 2009, MOLINA again sold the informant 27.9 grams of crack cocaine in exchange for $1,150. According to the prosecutor, this second sale was video-recorded inside a car and captured MOLINA handing a package that contained the crack cocaine to the informant and receiving cash in exchange.

MOLINA was arrested in connection with a larger investigation known as “Northern Kings” which targeted drug and gun trafficking crimes committed by persons belonging to or associated with street gangs, including the Latin Kings. While there was no evidence that MOLINA was a street gang member, the evidence showed that members of the Latin Kings gang profited from the drug sales. The investigation resulted in the arrest of over 20 individuals who are being prosecuted jointly by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office. Nine other defendants were charged in federal court. Several have already pleaded guilty and have received significant jail sentences.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Steven W. Derr; Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, New England Field Division; Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, made the announcement today. The case was investigated by the DEA’s Worcester HIDTA drug task force. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Hennessy of Ortiz’s Worcester Branch Office Unit.
