Shrewsbury Man Indicted for Child Pornography Offense

U.S. Attorney’s Office September 10, 2010
  • District of Massachusetts (617) 748-3100

BOSTON, MA—A Shrewsbury man was arrested yesterday after being charged in federal court with possessing child pornography.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division announced today that Shalin Bhavsar, 31, was charged in a federal indictment with possession of child pornography.

A search warrant affidavit sworn out in connection with the case alleges that Bhavsar purchased 30-day subscriptions to six websites that contained images of child pornography, leading investigators to seek a warrant to search his residence and computers and electronic media inside.

If convicted on these charges, Bhavsar faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment to be followed by at least five years of supervised release and a $ 250,000 fine.

The case was investigated by agents assigned to the FBI’s Hudson office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David Hennessy of Ortiz's Worcester Branch Office.

The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
