Fugitive from Worcester, Massachusetts Arrested in North Carolina

FBI Boston July 16, 2010

BOSTON, MA—James C. Burrell, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Boston announced the arrest of Marian F. Golemo, age 59, who was residing in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Golemo was arrested this morning at approximately 6:30 a.m. at 8828 Robinson Church Road, Charlotte, North Carolina, by FBI agents without incident. On June 22, 2010, a complaint was filed before a United States Magistrate Judge, District of Massachusetts, charging Golemo with violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1073, Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution.

Between 1990 and 1992, it is alleged that Mr. Golemo, a local businessman in Worcester, MA, persuaded clients to withdraw their bank account savings and invest their money with him. Mr. Golemo was indicted in 1996 by Worcester County Grand Jury on several counts of fraud related charges and security violations.

Information was recently developed by the FBI that Golemo for the last eight years had been residing in Charlotte, North Carolina, under the alias of Andrzej Kurtyka. Further investigation determined that Golemo had been residing at the above address where he was located and arrested. Golemo will remain in North Carolina pending extradition by Worcester County District Attorney’s office.

Assisting the FBI in this investigation was the Worcester MA Police Department.

Note: A charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
