Chicopee Man Sentenced to Prison for Possession with Intent to Distribute More Than Half a Kilogram of Cocaine in a Chicopee Housing Authority Apartment Building

BOSTON, MA—A Chicopee man was sentenced today in federal court for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance (cocaine) in a public housing authority facility.

Foucart, Special Agent in Charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Homeland Security Investigations, Boston Field Office; Colonel Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police; Chief John R. Ferraro, Jr., of the Chicopee Police Department; and William M. Bennett, Hampden County District Attorney, announced today that JOSE ANTONIO FELIX-ROBLES, 31, of Chicopee, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to 46 months' imprisonment, to be followed by eight years of supervised release. FELIX-ROBLES pled guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance (cocaine) in a public housing authority housing facility on April 15, 2010.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the court that had the case proceeded to trial, the government’s evidence would have proven that on October 30, 2009, agents executed a search warrant at 112 Elcon Drive, Chicopee, Mass., which is a housing facility of the Chicopee Housing Authority. When agents first approached the residence, FELIX-ROBLES attempted to elude capture by exiting through the rear of the apartment where he encountered agents and was subsequently arrested.

The agents determined that FELIX-ROBLES was the only individual in the apartment, where they located approximately one kilogram of cocaine on the sofa in the living room, concealed within a blood pressure monitor box inside a grocery bag. FELIX-ROBLES was taken into custody based upon an outstanding order of deportation dated January 15, 2003. After waiving his Miranda rights, FELIX-ROBLES admitted that shortly before agents executed the search warrant at his residence he was attempting to sell the cocaine to another individual.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven H. Breslow of Ortiz’s Springfield Branch Office.
