Boston Man Pleads Guilty to Multiple Bank Robberies

BOSTON, MA—A Boston man was convicted today in federal court of four counts of bank robbery.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation-Boston Field Division, announced today that FRANK PORTER, 65, of Boston, pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Rya Zobel to four counts of bank robbery.
At today’s plea hearing, the prosecutor told the court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven the following: On July 27, 2007, PORTER robbed the Century Bank in Boston; on August 3, 2007, PORTER robbed the Salem Five in Lynn; on August 10, 2007, PORTER robbed the Sovereign Bank in Boston; and finally on August 17, 2007, PORTER robbed the Mercantile Bank in Boston.
Judge Zobel scheduled sentencing for July 29, 2010. On each count, PORTER faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Boston and Lynn Police Departments. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth G. Shine of Ortiz’s Major Crime Unit.
