Springfield Man Sentenced on Child Pornography Charge

SPRINGFIELD, MA—A Springfield man was sentenced yesterday in federal court for possession of child pornography.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and and Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Division, announced today that JULIO RAMOS, age 47, of Langdon Street, Springfield, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to one year of community confinement, four years of probation, and no fine.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the court that had the case proceeded to trial, the government’s evidence would have proven that Ramos had downloaded child pornography from the Internet using a computer.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of online sexual exploitation of children, launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex J. Grant of Ortiz’s Springfield Branch Unit.
