Connecticut Man Sentenced on Federal Domestic Violence Charge

U.S. Attorney’s Office December 01, 2009
  • District of Maine (207) 780-3257

PORTLAND, ME—United States Attorney Paula D. Silsby announced today that a federal judge sitting in Portland sentenced Edward Farrell, age 29, of West Haven, Connecticut to serve 48 months in prison following his conviction for the federal crime of interstate domestic violence. The 48-month prison term will be followed by three years of supervised release.

According to court records, between September and November 2008, Farrell traveled in Connecticut, New York and Maine with the intent to injure his 17-year-old female dating partner. In the course of that travel, Farrell assaulted his partner multiple times, including violent incidents in Portland, Maine on November 5 and November 6, 2008.

United States Attorney Silsby said that the investigation leading to the conviction and sentence was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Portland Police Department. Silsby said this case is an example of the important work to be done in the area of domestic violence.

Silsby added that the Department of Justice recently launched a year-long commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) to raise public awareness of the many forms of violence against women, to highlight community efforts to provide services for the victims of these crimes, and to hold offenders accountable.
