FBI Arrests Jasper, Alabama Man for Georgia Murder

BIRMINGHAM—Richard D. Schwein, Jr., Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Birmingham Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today that Carl Evan Swain, age 41, of Jasper, Alabama, was arrested in the vicinity of 25th Street West and Second Avenue, Jasper, Alabama, at approximately 9:51 a.m. (CST) today. Swain was arrested for violation of Title 18, USC, Section 1111 (b), for murder on a government reservation, Fort Stewart Army Base, Fort Stewart, Georgia, on a warrant issued in the Southern District of Georgia. The arrest was made without incident by members of the North Alabama Safe Streets Task Force. He was not armed at the time of the arrest.

The public is reminded that a criminal complaint is only a charge. It is the government’s responsibility to prove a defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
