Russian National Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Armed Bank Robbery

Charles M. Oberly, III, United States Attorney for the District of Delaware, announced that Dmitry Pronin was sentenced today by United States District Judge Leonard P. Stark to 10 years in prison for armed bank robbery.
According to statements made during the sentencing and papers filed in the case, Dmitry Pronin is a 25-year-old Russian national who entered the United States in May 2008 on a work visa, later adjusted to a student visa.
On March 5, 2011, Pronin robbed the Pike Creek Shopping Center branch of WSFS, while armed with a loaded, semi-automatic pistol. He was arrested on March 14, 2011, in Baltimore, Maryland.
In a post-arrest statement to the FBI, Pronin admitted that for the sole purpose of attempting to get an immigration “green card,” he had married a United States citizen, a young woman with obvious and significant mental disabilities.
Pronin will not be deported to Russia until he completes his prison sentence in the United States.
Mr. Oberly thanked the Delaware State Police, U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their joint efforts in investigating this case. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Edmond Falgowski.
