  • Special Agent Stephen Emmett (404) 679-6451

ATLANTA—JONATHAN S. CALLAHAN, 27, of Atlanta, a patrol officer with the Clayton County Police Department, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of accepting money to use his law enforcement position to protect illegal drug transactions, possessing a stolen firearm, and stealing personal property from drivers during traffic stops. CALLAHAN made an initial appearance today before United States Magistrate Judge C. Christopher Hagy.

Brian D. Lamkin, Special Agent in Charge, FBI Atlanta, said, "We should commend the efforts of the Clayton County Police Department for recognizing the seriousness of the allegations against Officer Callahan and immediately calling the FBI to assist with investigating the matter."

Clayton County Police Department Interim Chief Timothy R. Robinson provided his full support of the investigation as well as his staff and was intimately involved in all aspects of the investigation. Chief Robinson stressed that his number one priority was to identify all individuals involved in these crimes and bring them to justice. This is an excellent example of how successful joint investigations can be and that it is vital for local, state, and federal agencies to work together to combat these types of crimes.
