Bank Robber Sentenced

G.F. Peterman, III, Acting United States Attorney, announced that Jason Hurt, age 33, was sentenced today by the Honorable C. Ashley Royal, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia. Hurt was sentenced to a total sentence of 178 months (14 years and 10 months) without parole.
Hurt had previously entered a guilty plea on April 13, 2010 to robbing the Bank of America located 2720 Riverside Drive, Macon, Georgia.
Hurt entered the Bank of America without wearing a disguise and robbed the bank of approximately $4,000.00. Officers with the Macon Police Department were able to identify Hurt and had a warrant issued for his arrest. Hurt was arrested two days later at a hotel in Hapeville, Georgia. Officers recovered part of the money as well as a firearm from the hotel room in Hapeville.
This was the second time that Hurt had robbed the Bank of America on Riverside Drive. Hurt robbed the bank in 2004 and was sentenced to five years in superior court.
Acting U.S. Attorney G.F. Peterman, III stated, “Anyone who robs a bank in the Middle District of Georgia will be pursued to wherever they may flee and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
The case was investigated by the Macon Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
