Dalton Man Arrested on Attempted Child Molestation and Pornography Charges

ATLANTA—Special Agent in Charge Gregory Jones, FBI Atlanta, announces on behalf of the Northwest Georgia Crimes Against Children Task Force, the following arrest:

Marty Burt, age 43, a resident of Dalton, Georgia, was arrested at Whitfield County, Georgia on Friday, October 9, 2009, and charged with attempted aggravated child molestation and violation of the computer pornography act.

This matter was initiated after a mother observed inappropriate online chats of a sexual nature being directed toward her minor child. The mother, in turn, contacted law enforcement officials.

Burt, a machine shop owner in the area, is currently being detained at the Whitfield County Detention Center.

The Northwest Georgia Crimes Against Children Task Force consists of federal agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and officers from the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, Dalton Police Department, Dade County Sheriff’s Office, Rossville Police Department, and the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The public is reminded that all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
