Federal Grand Jury Indicts Homer Man for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine and Heroin

ANCHORAGE, AK—United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced today that a man was indicted by a federal grand jury in Anchorage on one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and heroin.
The one-count indictment names Kostas Nikolaos Bairamis, 22, of Homer, Alaska, as the defendant.
According to the indictment, between October 2008, and January 2010, Bairamis conspired with others to distribute, and possess with intent to distribute, 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and a detectable amount of heroin. The government alleges that Bairamis used a 2008 Cadillac Escalade pickup truck to commit or facilitate the drug-trafficking conspiracy.
Assistant United States Attorney Kimberly R. Sayers-Fay, who presented the case to the grand jury, advised that if convicted of conspiring to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, Bairamis will face a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison, up to a maximum sentence of life in prison, a fine of up to $4 million, and lifetime supervised release are also possible for this offense. The United States is also seeking to forfeit the 2008 Cadillac Escalade, alleging that it represents proceeds of Bairamis' drug-trafficking activity.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Alaska State Troopers conducted the investigation the led to the indictment in this case.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
