Anchorage Man to Serve 20 Years in Federal Prison for Selling Crack

U.S. Attorney’s Office April 17, 2009
  • District of Alaska (907) 271-5071

ANCHORAGE—United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced today, April 17, 2009, that Lonnie John White, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 240 months in prison and fined $3,242.25 for one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and two counts of distribution of a controlled substance. A federal jury found White guilty of these three offenses after a trail held in December 2008.

United States District Court Judge Timothy M. Burgess imposed the sentence on White, age 28.

According Special Assistant United States Attorney Christine M. Thoreson, who prosecuted the case, the evidence presented at trial established that White sold crack to a government informant on five separate occasions during 2006 and 2007, distributing a total of 97.3 grams of crack. At trial, jurors listened to the audio recordings of the pone calls setting up the drug deals, as well as the audio and video recordings of the drug deals themselves. Trial testimony also established that White threw approximately three ounces of crack out a window as FBI agents attempted to enter his apartment. After breaking down a reinforced front door, FBI agents found White standing by the open window with another ounce of crack cocaine at his feet, and a loaded hand gun nearby. The total amount of crack recovered from White during the investigation totaled 210.2 grams.

Ms. Loeffler commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation Safe Streets Task Force, comprised of Anchorage police officers and FBI agents, for the investigation leading to the sentence in this case. SAUSA Thoreson is one of two prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office who are funded by the Municipality of Anchorage for the purpose of prosecuting gang-related and violent crime cases.
