Two Men Detained on Bank Robbery Charges

U.S. Attorney’s Office May 18, 2011
  • District of Vermont (802) 951-6725

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that Daryl Williams, age 50, and Andrew Dion, age 43, were arraigned today in federal court in Burlington on a two-count indictment charging them with (1) conspiring to rob the Randolph National Bank, and (2) transporting a stolen car from Massachusetts to Vermont, both offenses occurring in mid-October 2009. U.S. Magistrate Judge John M. Conroy ordered both men detained until trial.

According to court papers, the stolen car was used as the “getaway” car during the Vermont bank robbery. The Vermont bank in question is in Rochester, Vermont. Williams and Dion have been in the custody of the state of Connecticut as a result of another October 2009 bank robbery in that state.

The maximum penalty is up to 20 years’ imprisonment for bank robbery and up to 10 years’ imprisonment for interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle. The United States Attorney stated that the indictment is an accusation only and that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The U.S. Attorney thanked the Vermont State Police - Bethel Barracks and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for investigating the case. Natasha Sen, of the Federal Public Defenders Office, represents Williams. Dion is represented by Paul Volk. The United States is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney William Darrow.
