Franklin County Man Sentenced to 70 Months in Prison for Bank Robbery

U.S. Attorney’s Office July 13, 2011
  • District of Vermont (802) 951-6725

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that on July 12, 2011, Chief Judge Christina Reiss sentenced Chad Lussier, 25, to 70 months in prison for robbing five banks in Franklin County, Vermont. Chief Judge Reiss also ordered Lussier to pay restitution to TD Bank in the amount of $7,998 and to People’s United Bank in the amount of $8,966.

Lussier previously pleaded guilty to two counts of bank robbery. As part of the plea agreement, Lussier admitted that he had also committed three other bank robberies charged in the Superseding Indictment, and agreed to pay restitution to the banks for the money stolen in all five robberies.

On February 18, 2010, a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging Lussier with robbing the TD Bank in Enosburg Falls on January 29, 2010. A Superseding Indictment added four other bank robbery charges, alleging that Lussier robbed the TD Bank in Enosburg Falls on November 13, 2009, the People’s United Bank in Swanton on October 27, 2009, the People’s United Bank in St. Albans on October 5, 2009, and the TD Bank in Richford on September 25, 2009. According to court documents, Lussier wielded a knife in all but the last robbery.

The United States Attorney commended the Vermont State Police, the St. Albans Police Department, the Swanton Police Department, the U.S. Border Patrol, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their excellent work in this case.

The United States is represented by Assistant United States Attorneys Kevin J. Doyle and Timothy C. Doherty, Jr. The defendant is represented by Mark A. Kaplan, Esq. of the Burlington law firm, Kaplan and Kaplan.
