Burlington Man Sentenced for Possession of Child Pornography and for Promoting a Recording of Sexual Conduct Involving a Child

U.S. Attorney's Office October 15, 2010
  • District of Vermont (802) 951-6725

Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell announced today that Christopher R. Morey, of Burlington, Vermont, pled guilty to one felony count of possession of child pornography and two felony counts of promoting a recording of sexual conduct. Mr. Morey was sentenced in the Superior Court, Criminal Division, to five to 25 years' imprisonment, all suspended except three years. Mr. Morey was also placed on probation with sex offender special conditions imposed.

Mr. Morey’s conviction resulted from a shared investigation between FBI offices in Florida and California, the Burlington Police Department, and Vermont’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. During this investigation, Mr. Morey admitted to possessing, viewing, and distributing child pornography over the Internet using peer-to-peer file sharing programs.

“This defendant was in possession of over 150 videos of children being sexually assaulted and he was engaged in trading these horrific images with other like-minded predators. Since studies have shown an alarming correlation between trafficking in child pornography and hands-on abuse, we in law enforcement need to redouble our efforts to identify and hold accountable those responsible and halt the flow of these disgusting materials,” stated Attorney General William Sorrell.
