FBI Detroit—specifically, Special Agent Thomas Plantz from our Lansing Resident Agency—has been taking part the past four years in a crime scene investigation (CSI) youth camp hosted annually by Michigan State University’s gifted and talented education program. The one-week camp gives 25-30 middle school students an introduction to various disciplines of forensics. Plantz, who offers a presentation on forensic art, provides an overall introduction to composite drawings, post mortem sketches, 2D and 3D reconstructions, and age progressions. At the conclusion of his presentation, the campers draw composite sketches of an unknown subject—usually a celebrity—from witness descriptions. Above, camp participants (with Plantz) show off their drawings.
