Hiroshi H Miyamura.jpgThe Albuquerque Division honors Mr. Hiroshi H. Miyamura for his lifelong leadership in support of young people and youth-based initiatives.

Mr. Miyamura is a first generation Japanese-American who received the Congressional Medal of Honor from President Dwight D. Eisenhower for bravery during the Korean War. He has continued his service to the United States by motivating thousands of young people to become worthy citizens of this country.

Mr. Miyamura has accepted countless invitations to speak with and to mentor students enrolled in the Gallup-McKinley County School District, which includes 35 multi-cultural schools on the largest Native American reservation in the United States. His dedication to young people has fostered positive interaction among students and has inspired hundreds to become role models within their respective communities. In 2007, the district named one of the area high schools in honor of Mr. Miyamura for his commitment to his country and the communities in and around Gallup. Each year, Mr. Miyamura personally sponsors two scholarships for graduating seniors enrolled in the high school.
