2013 Director’s Community Leadership Awards
Columbia | Larry Teachey |
The Columbia Division honors Larry Teachey for his many contributions leading to the success of Crimestoppers of Greenville. Mr. Teachey is the former director of health, safety, and environment for General Electric in Greenville, South Carolina. From 2001 to 2013, he served as chairman of the Crimestoppers of Greenville board of directors. Under his leadership, the chapter received the Southeastern Crimestoppers Productivity Award the past four years for solving the most cases and recovering the most property and drugs. As of August 1, 2013, Crimestoppers of Greenville had received more than 26,000 calls leading to more than 3,000 arrests, the seizure of $1.6 million in drugs, the recovery of $1.3 million in property, and more than 7,500 cases cleared. A key to the success of Crimestoppers is the ability to pay cash rewards for confidential information. Working to continue the success of their program, Mr. Teachey raised more than $200,000 for the organization and worked with Latino community representatives to develop a Spanish version of Crimestoppers advertising to further the organization’s reach and ability to solve crimes. Now retired, Mr. Teachey continues to serve as a Crimestoppers board member and a constant supporter of law enforcement. |
