The New Haven Division is pleased to honor the International Institute of Connecticut (IICONN), a nonprofit social service agency, as a recipient of the 2012 Director’s Community Leadership Award. IICONN is dedicated to helping foreign-born persons and immigrants achieve self-sufficiency and adapt to living in the United States. The organization provides a broad range of programs, including refugee resettlement and services, Project Rescue (an anti-human trafficking initiative), citizenship preparation classes, language services, and immigration and naturalization resources. IICONN’s Project Rescue assists victims of human trafficking identified in Connecticut. The project is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime and is operated by IICONN. Project Rescue was established to provide help to victims by offering housing assistance, health services, job training skills, language and cultural assistance, transportation, and legal and immigration services. IICONN is a valuable resource for law enforcement and works closely with state, local, and federal law enforcement partners throughout Connecticut. |
