The Denver Division is pleased to honor Melanie Pearlman, executive director of the Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab, as a recipient of the 2012 Director’s Community Leadership Award. The Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab (CELL) is a nonprofit institution that is dedicated to the prevention of terrorism through education, empowerment, and engagement. Under Ms. Pearlman’s leadership, the CELL has evolved into a center of excellence for terrorism prevention and has impacted thousands of individuals since its inception in 2009. Through its acclaimed exhibit, distinguished speaker series, and law enforcement training programs, the CELL cultivates partnerships by working with the FBI and other law enforcement entities to enhance the nation’s safety. Under Ms. Pearlman’s direction, the CELL created the world’s first multimedia exhibit focused on understanding the threat of terrorism. In addition, Ms. Pearlman co-produced Recognizing 8 Signs of Terrorism, a video designed to educate citizens about the actions they can take to prevent terrorism and other criminal activity. The video was launched by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and has received a variety of national awards. |
