Dallas field office Director’s Community Leadership Award 2011

The Dallas Division is pleased to honor Mr. William Walsh for his work as the founder and coordinator of the Crimes Against Children Conference (CACC) and the Conference on Crimes Against Women (CCAW), which are held annually in Dallas, Texas.

A retired lieutenant of the Dallas Police Department, Mr. Walsh is a 26-year law enforcement veteran and served in units that were responsible for investigating crimes against children. Throughout his career, Mr. Walsh started numerous innovative programs intended to protect women and children.

In 1980, he started the CACC, which focuses on improving the criminal justice response to the victimization of children. It has the largest law enforcement attendance of any child maltreatment conference in the world and is attended by many FBI personnel. Mr. Walsh has also co-founded the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, the Dallas County Child Death Review Team, and the Sex Offender Apprehension Program.

Mr. Walsh has lectured on child abuse and family violence and has conducted training for a number of international, federal, and state agencies.

In a ceremony at FBI Headquarters, Director Robert S. Mueller, III recognized the recipients of the 2011 Director’s Community Leadership Award. These leaders, selected by their area FBI field office, have demonstrated outstanding contributions to their local communities through service. The FBI is grateful for the work of each of these individuals and organizations on behalf of their communities.

“Whatever the motivation—an unfilled need, a tragic occurrence, a desire to give back—these are people who make things happen and enlist others in their cause,” said Director Mueller. “They are activists who have earned their prestige through good works.”
