Qualifications include the following:
- BS in criminalistics, biology, chemistry, or a related field with at least four years' forensic laboratory experience as a qualified firearms and toolmarks examiner
- Qualified as a firearms and toolmarks examiner with training and experience from a recognized forensic laboratory
Responsibilities include the following:
- Performing laboratory and field work involving firearms and toolmarks and related examinations for the Forensic Laboratory in the Department of Public Safety
- Performing on-scene evidentiary searches at major or difficult crime scenes
- Preparing written reports of findings and testifying in a court of law concerning results
